An "Aqiqa" is an Islamic tradition to be thankful for the birth of a new child. When a baby is born 1 (or two) goats are sacrificed then eaten, and tha baby's head is shaved (boy or girl) and the weight of the baby's hair is weighed. The weight of the hair is calculated for the value of the same weight but in gold, and then given away in chairty.
Muslims in Oman get this tradition from Salman bin Amir Ad-Dabbi from the Prophet Mohamed S.A.W, & Samura bin Jundab.
