Did you know that there is a castle in Al Mussanah? Well, OPNO didn't. We got there by accident. See, we wanted to go to the beach in Barka, but the traffic was so backed up in the round about because of Muscat Festival in Naseem park, so we decided to drive back the opposite way to cut back through the less busy backstreets, but we missed our turn, and ended up at the Al Mussanah rounabout. By then, it was pretty close to sunset, so we figured we'd just check out Al Mussanah's coastline instead.Driving towards the Mussanah Souq to the beach, we discovered Al Mussanah castle. Of course, since it was way after 4 p.m it was closed, but we took some photos of the exterior.Still yet to head down to the beach, distracted as OPNO was by the call to prayer sounded, our party went seeking a Mosque. We found alot. This warmed OPNO's heart to see Mosque's no more than a house apart in Al Mussanah and she remarked to her friend that it must be a sign that maybe the people were more religious here. Her friend, a local, said the sight was actually saddening. It more likely spelt out that the Muslims were divided. Here was a Shia mosque, that a Sunni mosque, and those Ibadhi. Or that this tribe built their own mosque, and this other tribe built their own, ect. OPNO would never have figured it that way. While driving around the Mosques, we saw this beautiful door to a family's home and took a quick snap. After Magraib we headed down to the beach. Because it was windy there were a lot of waves, and looking down the coast towards the lights of Barka, a beautiful full moon shone [smaller than it appears in the photos].In the dusk light, we endeavored to take a few more shots of Al Mussanah castle, as it was extremely well lit. As with all detours in Oman, you never know what you might find.
