Now this will probably sound pretty horrible of us, but we were terribly dissapointed by the Cliffs of Moher. Of course, not of the sheer magnitude of the cliffs themselves, but of the fact that the tourism board of Ireland had gone (for the Gathering) and started charging to see them, and by having attempted to make the cliffs safer had spoiled the effect of them.
To quote the local Irish woman talking in front of us "it was much more grand in the old days, when you'd be holding your breath watching some tourist lad [American of course] as far to the cliffs edge as gravity would allow and leaning over to get a photo. I just don't like it anymore. They've ruined it somehow."
It was a fine walk nonetheless, they added a visitor museum about the local birds, and Irish family names and what not. We jumped over the barricade and walked the cliffs edge anyways, because the new pathway was stupid, and made me sad.
It was not my best penny spent in Ireland, sadly.
